SECTION 7 EDUCATION ACT 1996 - Compulsory Education
Home Educated Children who are NOT registered at school, have every right to be out and about during school hours and they or their carers should NOT be harassed by police or Local Education Authority Officials. If you or your child have been detained or questioned while you are lawfully going about your business, complain. You are not breaking the law. Write to your local Chief Constable or the Police Complaints Commission or The Local Education Ombudsman. Contact the local paper, radio or TV station, your MP and Local Councillors and complain!
The parent of every child of compulsory school age shall cause him to receive efficient full-time education suitable - (a) to his age, ability and aptitude, and (b) to any special educational needs he may have, either by regular attendance at school or otherwise.
